Kingsmeadow stadium was in disbelief as Feyenoord thrashed Chelsea 3-1 in an Eredivisie clash

Chelsea's manager issues a statement demanding improvement after a disappointing performance against Feyenoord

Feyenoord came from behind to thrash Chelsea 3-1 at Kingsmeadow in a disappointing Women's Super League match on Sunday, as strikes from Pia Rijsdijk, Renate Jansen, and Romée Leuchter canceled out Lauren James' opener.

James struck a shot outside the area after just six minutes to give Chelsea an early lead, but their advantage was cut short when Rijsdijk volleyed a free kick from the right wing to equalize in the 15th minute.

Feyenoord then took the lead for the first time when Jansen slotted home from close range midway through the second half before Leuchter's brilliant curling effort from the left secured the three points for the Eredivisie side.

The result leaves Chelsea in fourth place in the Women's Super League table, while Feyenoord has moved up to second place.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said: "We started well and took the lead, but we lost our way a bit and Feyenoord were the better team. We need to be better in all areas, and we will work hard to improve."

Feyenoord coach Sonia Bompastor said: "I'm delighted with the performance of the team. We showed great character against a top team, and we're very happy to come away with the win.
