Northern Lights Dazzle Germany

Unusually Large Solar Storm Brings Aurora Borealis South

Germans were able to gain a rare glimpse of the northern lights on Friday night due to an unusually large solar storm.

The solar storm, which originated from the sun on Thursday, sent charged particles toward Earth, causing the aurora borealis to appear much further south than usual. In Germany, the lights were visible as far south as Hamburg and Berlin.

The best images of the aurora borealis are characterized by a perfect blend of technical precision and artistic expression. To capture the perfect image, photographers must use a combination of long exposure times, high ISO settings, and careful composition.

With a large stretch of coastline along its northern border, Germany surprisingly is a reasonable European destination to see the aurora borealis. The best time to see the lights is during the winter months, when the nights are longer and the sky is darker.
