Our Solar System: A Detailed Overview
Our solar system is home to an array of celestial bodies, including planets, dwarf planets, and moons. While the traditional view of the solar system included nine planets, astronomical discoveries in recent years have led to a revised classification system, with the number of planets now standing at eight.

The Dwarf Planets
In addition to the eight planets, the solar system also includes five officially recognized dwarf planets:
- Ceres
- Orcus
- Pluto
- Haumea
- Quaoar
- Makemake
- Gonggong
Dwarf planets are celestial bodies that are similar to planets in many ways, but they do not meet all the criteria to be classified as a planet. They are typically smaller than planets and have irregular shapes.
The Solar System Assemblage
The solar system is a complex and dynamic assemblage of celestial bodies that orbit the Sun. It consists of the eight planets, their 210 known planetary satellites, and numerous other objects, including asteroids, comets, and meteoroids.
The solar system is constantly evolving, with new discoveries being made all the time. As our understanding of the solar system continues to expand, so too does our appreciation of its wonders and mysteries.
