BREAKING: Zach Arnett Fired as Mississippi State Head Coach
Less Than a Year After Taking Over
Starkville, Miss.
Mississippi State has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after less than one season, the university announced Monday. The move comes just under a year since Arnett took over the Bulldogs following the tragic passing of Mike Leach.
Arnett, 36, had a disappointing tenure in Starkville, compiling a 3-9 record in 2023. The Bulldogs lost their final seven games of the season and failed to qualify for a bowl game.
"This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is in the best interest of our football program," Mississippi State athletic director Zac Selmon said in a statement.
Arnett, a former Ole Miss analyst, was hired as Mississippi State's head coach in January 2023. He was previously the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator under Leach.
Mississippi State will begin a national search for its next head coach immediately.
